OBITUARY
REV. FATHER MCMONAGLE The Rev. Father John McMonagle, ■who has been associated with the diocese of Christchurch for the last 28 years, died in the Lewisham Hospital yesterday at the age of 51. Born in County Donegal, Ireland, Father McMonagle was educated for the priesthood and ordained at St Kieran’s Missionary College, Kilkenny. He volunteered for work in the diocese of Christchurch and his first appointment was assistant priest at Greymouth. From there he was transferred to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament where he was assistant and later administrator. While he was at the cathedral he was in charge of the mission in the Chatham Islands and was responsible lor building the church there. The church at Darfield was built while j^ n was and is a monument to Because of failing health he was ??*lF el 2 e<l Darfield to Sumner. At the time of his death he was parish priest at Runanga.
