OIL CONCESSION IN SYRIA
PROPOSAL TO BUILD PIPELINE
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, February 17. Reuter’s Damascus correspondent says that the Syrian Government has published the terms of a concession under which the American-owned Trans-Arabian Pipeline Company will build an 800-mile oil pipeline from Saudi Arabia across Syria and Lebanon. The concession involves the expenditure of £10,000,000 a year by the company, which will surrender 80 per cent, of this sum to the Syrian foreign exchange controller. Syria has power to demand payment in dollars. It is generally expected that the Chamber of Deputies will approve the concession next week
