SURPLUS POTATOES

Sir. —Could someone please inform me what rate of interest the Government is paying on money owing to the farmers for surplus potatoes? It is over two months since it took’ over the potatoes. Perhaps it is saving up to pay for our new acre in London. Mr Fraser probably wrote out a £300,000 or £400,000 cheque for this instantly. It must be pricking his conscience when he thinks of the hard-working spud farmer still waiting for his money—plus interest. — Yours, etc., PATIENTLY WAITING'. January 14, 1949.

[This letter was referred to the Minister of Marketing (Mr E. L. Cullen) who said he had no comment to make at this stage.]
