MAGISTRATE’S COURT ACT
No official announcement has yet been made on when the new Magistrate’s Court Act will come in to force. The measure was passed nearly a year ago and it is understood that everything is now ready for its operation.
Many, lawyers believe that there should be nc further delay, the Act having been recognised; but they hope that there will be sufficient notice of its coming in to force. Important alterations in jurisdiction and procedure are involved and they .point out that cases now being prepared for the Supreme Court may be heard in the Magistrate’s Court when the new Act is invoked.
Both the legal profession and court staffs will have to prepare for alterations in procedure once the date for the new act is known.
