APARIMA RIVER FLOODS

HIGH PEAK REACHED AT NORTH OTAUTAU

(PA.) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 15. For the second time in three years, residents of North Otautau to-day experienced. flooding from the Aparima river, and water entered about six homes. At its peak, the flood reached the 10-feet mark at the Aparima bridge in North Otautau. 9ft 6in higher an . normal. The peak equals that of the disastrous flood of 1913. What saved North Otautau residents from disaster on this occasion was the fact that the Otautau river, which joins the Aparima at Otdutau. did not rise appreciably and. as in the past, back up the flood waters of the Aparima. In at least two homes water was flooding in the back door and out the front door. At 9.30 o’clock this morning. the flood had receded by a foot, and residents were digging channels to carry away the water.
