OBITUARY

MR C. K. SAMS Mr Cyril Keate Sams died in Christchurch early yesterday morning, aged 89. Mr Sams was born in Tasmania in 1859, a son of Mr W. G. G. Sams, of Launceston. He joined the Bank of Australasia as a youth and spent his early business life in South Australia, coming to New Zealand about 1900. Mr Sams became chief accountant of the bank’s Christchurch branch, and retired 20 years ago. He then began business as an accountant and sharebroker, from which he retired some •years ago. Mr Sams was one of the original members of the Christchurch Golf Club, when the links were on Hagley Park. He was a good left-handed player, and the Sams Cup, for lefthanded players, was named after him. He was a long-standing member of the St. Albans Masonic Lodge. Mr Sams is survived by Mrs Sams, two sons, Messrs C. G. A. Sams (Christchurch) and J. N. Sams (Otaki) and one daughter, Miss Lucy Sams, who is on the staff of St. Thomas’s Hospital, London.
