POLITICAL LEVIES

Sir,—“Play Fair" mentions “two fair reasonable questions” he would like answered. To the first concerning my attitude as a Labour suppprter, should my union vote to make a levy to help the National Party funds, the answer is that in no circumstances would I contribute to that party’s assistance by so much as one halfpenny. Taking into consideration the fact that the National Party represents the same interests which in the not so very distant past made unionism a punishable crime, how can he class this a fair or reasonable question? As to his second query, I have no sympathy to waste on so-called unionists who refrain from attending meetings of the union,’which, by supporting Labour, is directly benefiting them. What these individuals need to bring them to their senses is a spell under the same conditions we endured before Labour gained control.—Yours, etc.. FAIR PLAY. »December 14, 1948.
