FIRE BRIGADE STRENGTH

TWELVE MEN SHORT NINE RESIGNATIONS “An analysis of the resignations shows that with four exceptions, the firemen resigned, they alleged, because the conditions of duty coupled with the non-availability of married quarters on the station have caused domestic hardship,” said Superintendent A. Morrison in a report to the Christchurch Fire Board last evening on the resignation of nine firemen. The total strength of the brigade at present was 57, reported Superintendent Morrison. The brigade was 12 men short. The resignations were:—Firemen H. A. Campbell, A. F. C. Tavendale, N. J. Brown, W. H. Stockwell, C. G. Dallow. H. Ward, C. H. Tripp, and Probationer Firemen M. G. Costello and W. Kane. After 29 years’ continuous service with the brigade, Senior Station Officer O. J. Parry resigned on December 10. Superintendent Morrison reported. that the officer had carried out his many duties in a highiv capable manner. The board decided to make a grant of £250 from the fund for the retirement of officers, and to give Officer Parry three months’ leave on full pay. Station Officer P. J. Taylor was appointed senior station officer. He joined the brigade in 1923 and was promoted to junior station officer in 1937.
