TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

DUNCRAIG AND DUNDEE SANDY IN FORM

Duncraig and Dundee Sandy pleased by the bold manner in which they paced when working over a mile and a half at Addington yesterday morning in 3min 21sec, the last half mile in lmin ssec. A good performer in Southland, Duncraig, which is a recent addition to V. Alborn’s team at Addington, showed his best form at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup meeting when he finished third to Gay Knight and Belmont Hall in 4min 18 3-ssec in the Electric Handicap, and fourth to Prince Hall, Gay Piper, and Belmont Hall in the Manchester Handicap. Duncraig, which appears to have been improved by his recent racing, may gain his first win for Alborn at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting in January. The trestles were out, and horses were forced to cover some extra ground, the extra distance being equivalent to about two seconds to the mile. Harmonist trotted solidly when working over two miles with Croughton and Novachord in smin 1 2-ssec. Wairiri Girl and Velvet Brown, which joined in at the end of two furlongs, finished in front after sprinting the last four furlongs in lmin 10 2-ssec.

Trained at Tai Tapn Wairiri Girl, which appears to have good prospects in the Mitcham Handicap at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day, is trained at Tai Tapu by W. L. Harris, who also worked Blue Match and Jimmy Warton at Addington yesterday. A useful performer over middle distances, Jimmy Warton was always going easily when he covered two miles in 4min 46sec, the last half mile taking lmin llsec. Blue Match, the winner of the second division of the Maruia Handicap at Reefton on December 4, was not hoppled. A gelding by Wrackful from Pretty Match, he looks in splendid order. After giving her two seconds start, Acclamation finished- level with Vindictive Lady, which covered two miles in 4min 45 2-ssec, the last four furlongs taking lmin ssec. Sir Vivian, which started four seconds behind Vindictive Lady, finished close vp. An unlucky runner at the cup meeting at Addington. Acclamation should go close to winning the Ashburton Trotting Cup at the Ashburton meeting on Boxing Day for Messrs Bruce Bros., who live in the district.

Sir Vivian and Vindictive Lady both look well. They should show up in their races at the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting. Sir Garry proved much too good for his stable-mates when he covered a mile and a half in 3min 32 4-ssec. One of A. Reed’s team. Sir Garry, which was placed at Greymouth in October, should soon leave the maiden classes.

Worked As a Trotter Bonny Scott, which was worked at the trotting gait, was too good for Bonny Brogue and Kenyon at the end of a mile and a quarter. The runner-up to Lyndale in the Members’ Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, Bonny Scott has earned £BO9 for four minor placings since the beginning of the season. A smart mare with a record of 2min 39 2-ssec to her credit, she must be respected from the 12 yards mark in the Boxing Day Handicap at Ashburton on December 27. After being given barrier practice, Gold Strike finished well clear of Olive’s Pride at the end of a mile and a quarter in 2min 56sec. the last half mile taking lmin 10 3-ssec.

A place-getter when trained at Weedons by N. L. Berkett earlier In the season. Gold Strike is now being trained at Addington by J. Purdon. Pirouette and Little Ham worked over a mile and a half in 3min 33 l-ssec, the last half mile taking lmin Bsec. A consistent performer, Pirouette has raced well to gain two wins and three minor placings this season for Mr W. Hancox. for whom she is trained at Addington by E. A. Berry. Highland Belle shaded Tekau and Doonholme at the end of a mile and a half in 3min 34 2-ssec, the last half mile in lmin 6 2-ssec. When she settles down to race solidly. Highland Belle should prove capable of taking a tight mark. Improving x Sypland, which appears to be improving under G. S. Smith’s care at Addington, set the pace for Trustee when working over a mile and a half In 3min 36 7 3 ss’ the laSt f ° Ur furlongs taking lmin

Starshell paced Vigilant over a mile and a half in 3min 30 4-ssec, the last halfmile taking lmin Bsec. Volometre sprinted the last four furlongs of .her trial in lmin 10 2-ssec. Mosquito, which pleased by her effort to finish third to Passive and Conceit in the Improvers’ Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, was given strong work by E. A. Berry. A likely improver. Mosquito should show up from the 12 yards mark in the Winslow Handicap, at Ashburton on Boxing Day. Jottings

Sent out 3-3 in the betting in the Improvers’ Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday, Lady Inchcape, which was driven by G. McKendry, began fast from the 12 yards mark, but she drifted through the field after losing her balance at the end of six furlongs. A three-year-old trotter by Light Brigade from Esprit has been registered as Beau Brigade. Esprit, which was imported in 1938 by Mr J. R. McKenzie, is by Guy Castleton from the Peter the Great mare, Petrex. Best Globe never appeared as a possibility after losing ground at the start of the Wainoni Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. Bellissima has been nominated to race against the pacers in the Grandstand Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting.

Began Slowly Liliaceae was always well back after losing ground when she began slowly in the Canterbury Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. A half-sister to winners in Diviner, Neutrality, and War Guard, Liliaceae snould develop into a good winner when she settles down to race solidly for H. J. Smith, who trains her at Halswell.
