TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

CUP HORSES ATTRACT ATTENTION The New Zealand Cup candidates, Aberhall, Nyallo Scott, Loyal Peter, and Dundee Sandy, all pleased their admirers when they were given their final trials at Addington yesterday morning. Dundee Sandy worked alone over a mile and a half in 3min 24sec. After covering the first mile in 2min 21sec Dundee Sandy sprinted the next two furlongs in 29sec, but V. Alborn eased him up, and he completed the last half-mile in Imin 3sec. Dundee Sandy is in sparkling condition and he should not be disgraced in the cup. Loyal Peter, which was worked the reverse way round by R. Young, covered two miles in 4min 28sec the last halfmile taking Imin Bsec. If he is allowed to make his own rules Loyal Peter may take part in the finish of the cup.

Aberhall was let off with an easy two miles, the last four furlongs taking Imin 8 3-ssec. Aberhall has obviously been improved by his recent races, and he should strip a fit horse to-morrow. Nyallo Scott worked over a mile and a half with Grattan Drive in 3min 25 2-ssec, the last half-mile taking Imin 2 2-ssec. If he leaves the mark correctly Nyallo Scott may prove capable of gaining a place in the cup. The weather was fine and the track was in good order. As the trestles were out, all work ' was done about two sulky widths from the rails. The extra distance covered was equivalent to about two seconds to the mile. Trotted. Solidly Trotting in his best style. Aerial Scott worked over two miles with Vindictive Lady and Sir Vivian in 4min 31 l-ssec. the last four furlongs taking Imin 6 l-ssec. With his stable-mate. Acclamation, Aerial Scott will probably be sent out first favourite for the Avon Handicap at Addington to-morrow. Sir Vivian appears to be back to his best form. He should prove hard to beat in the Final Handicap at Addington. Nationalist gave an encouraging display when trotting the last four furlongs of his trial in Imin 4 4-ssec. Systematic and Jackie Guy pleased by the manner in which they paced over a mile and a half in 3min 29seo, sprinting the last half-mile in Imin 3 3-ssec. Jackie Guy appears to be regaining his best form. Gold Sheik and Dillondale covered a mile and a half in 3min 29 lnssec, the last half-mile taking Imin 3 4-ssec. Duncraig looked well when worked by V. Albojm, who is training him for his races at the cup meeting. Carisbrook paced boldly when worked by E. A. Berry. He may be capable of

springing a surprise in the Victoria Han- , dicap at Addington. Doonholme covered the last half-mile ’ of her trial in Imin ssec Trustee set the pace for Mountmellick and Playhall when covering a mile and a J half in 3min 31 2-ssec, the last four fur- ■ longs in Imin 6sec. A recent addition to • G. S. Smith’s team. Playhall appears to be - a temperamental • mare. She may settle down to race solidly with more exi perience. • Mountmellick, a winner last season, may take a much tighter mark this term. . In F. G. Holmes’s Team ’ Vigilant and Mac’s Ace, which are in ■F. G. Holmes’s team, sprinted the last : half-mile in Imin ssec when covering a ; mile and a half in 3min 28sec. A placegetter at “the recent Forbury Park meeting, Mac’s Ace appeals as an early winner. Dandy Grattan was worked over a mile and a half by V. Alborn in 3rhin 33 1- the last half-mile taking Imin 5 4-ssec. Dandy Grattan showed a glimpse of his best form when he covered two furlongs in the middle stages in 29sec. Bonny Scott, which was worked at the trotting gait, marred her effort by' breaking. She trotted the last half-mile in Imin Bsec. Acclamation was let off with an easy two miles in 4min 50 4-ssec. She was accompanied, over the last mile and a half by Croughto’n, which created a good impression when he paced the last halfmile in Imin 8 2-ssec, the last two furlongs taking 34sec. Croughton may show up in the Riccarton Stakes at Addington. Good Work Follow Me and Starshell attracted attention to their prospects when they covered a mile and a half in 3min 22 2- the last half-mile taking Imin 4 I l-ssec. Starshell, which appears to be i back to her best form, should race well ■in the Victoria Handicap at Addington ; to-morrow. ' Jimmy Dillon and Willie Winkie trotted smoothly when working over a mile and a half with King’s Messenger in 3min 37 l-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec. One of Sir Michael’s legs is causing his trainer, C. S. Tasker, some worry, and he is an unlikely starter at the cup meeting. Forbury Park Stakes At a meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club it was decided to allocate £12,500 in prize money, for the club’s cup meeting on January 22 and 29. This is the same amount as ■ was provided at the last cup meeting. In ■ addition, it was agreed that a trophy valued at £ino be given to the winner ■of the cup.—(P.A.)
