HIGH TEMPERATURES YESTERDAY
MAXIMUM OF 83 DEGREES IN CQRISTCHURCH A maximum temperature of 83 degrees was recorded at the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory at 1.50 p.m. yesterday. This is the highest temperature recorded at the observatory this year since March 2, when « temperature of 87.9 degrees was reached. • The maximum temperature at Timayu yesterday was 88.6 degrees. Many residents of Timaru swam at Caroline Bay for the first time since last summer. At Waimate a temperature of 87 degrees in the shade was recorded, and at Ashburton 83 degrees. Yesterday’s temperature was the ! third highest ever to be recorded by the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory for October.
