JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY RALLY
SPREAD OF COMMUNISM OPPOSED From Our Own Reporter
TIMARU, September 26. The Canterbury Division of the Junior National Party pledged itself to help to stem the spread of Communism, especially amongst young people, at a half-yearly committee meeting and rally of the division at Timaru during the week-end. Nearly 300 delegates, representing 25 Cantermiry branches, and representatives from Hokitika, attended. A message from the leader of the party (Mr S. G. Holland), who was unable. to be present, was conveyed by Mr D. C. Kidd, M.P. for Waimate. Mr Kidd said that the future welfare of the country lay in the hands of the youth of to-day, which was both a responsibility and a privilege. The chief speaker was Mr J. F. Lockington, who contested the Westland by-election for the National Party. “I am proud to belong to the only party in New Zealand to-day which is opposing the steady and sinister growth of State control and State ownership, which masquerades under the name of Socialism, but which is actually nothing more or less than Communism or Fascism in another form,” he said.
