ITALIAN EXPERTS MAY VISIT N.Z. (P.A.) WELLINGTON Sept. 24. j Two Italian experts on|he genera- ' tion of electricity by harnessing naI tural thermal energy migh\ visit New i Zealand to advise the Government on ' the potential value of thil country’s thermal regions for the prdluction of power, announced the mfiister in charge of the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr R. Semple) today. He • added that the Commissioner if Works (Mr E. R. McKillop) and thepirector ! of Geological Survey (Mr M. Dngley) who were at present overseas, had studied achievements made in te generation of power at Lardarelo. the Italian thermal area. “I received letters from Mr IffcKillop' intimating that he had foufli two : experts on thermal power win are prepared to come here on invitation,'* said Mr Semple. “An invitation has not yet been extended to them, but it will be probably after Mr M<Killop’s return and after further stucty of the situation here.” If thermal regions could be harnessed in Italy, where it had been done with a great measure of success, there was no reason why it could not be done in New Zealand, saii Mr Semple, but a great deal of exploratory work would be necessary before any final decisions could be made.
