PETROL RATIONING
MOTORISTS SEEK ABOLITION
With little discussion, the South Island Motor Union asked yesterday that petrol rationing be abolished. A report was received that in America the production potential had proved greater than expected, no winter shortage was encountered, and refineries were not now working to capacity. The meeting also asked for a higher octane rating in petrol for ordinary consumers. ■ The union will press, on behalf of caravan owners, for an additional allowance of petrol to cover the loss of mileage involved through towing. The North and South Island Motor Unions will combine to demand an early reduction in the price of petrol. This case will be based on promises of relief arising from change in the exchange rate.
