FIRE IN TRAM
When the motorman fell out of a tram in Colombo street yesterday morning the conductor, Mr Eric Lyons, applied the emergency brakes. The tram caught fire, ana smoke issued from the floor boards while the injured motorman was being attended to. Passengers quickly left the tram, and the Christchurch Central Fire Brigade was called. It arrived at 11.22 a.m., and soon put the fire out. The motorman, Mr H. G. Roberts, of 295 Clyde road, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital with head injuries and concussion. His condition was reported to be satisfactory last evening. Only slight damage was done to the motor- of the tram.
