ELECTRICAL HAZARDS

NEW REGULATIONS GAZETTED MOVABLE AND FIXED EQUIPMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept 23. A new provision setting out the' action to be taken by electrical inspectors in cases of faulty movable electrical appliances is contained in an amendment to the Electrical Supply Regulations ; üblished this evening. An inspector finding a faulty movable appliance is required to attach to it a notice warning against its use until the defect has been remedied. Any person removing such a warning notice or using the appliance before the defect has been remedied commits an offence against the regulations. In the case of a faulty portion of fixed wiring or a faulty permanently connected appliance, the power supply authority is required to give the consumer notice in writing to have the defect remedied within a reasonable time.

Where in the opinion of the inspector the defect creates an electrical hazard, the supply authority is required to discontinue power supply to that portion of the wiring or connected appliance. x Another clause provides that a supply authority shall not begin supply to any new installation which does not comply with the requirements of the regulations.

• To ascertain that installations are free from electrical hazard, supply authorities are required to make inspections and tests of consumers’ whole fixed wiring at intervals of not more than eight years.
