Barnardo’s Homes.—The passing of the new Children Bill and the introduction of the national health service in England did not mean that Dr. Earnardo’s Homes no longer required financial support, according to a letter received recently by a Christchurch resident from the superintendent of the honjes. The letter acknowledged receipt of food and soap parcels, which, said the superintendent, were extremely welcome, as the matrons of the various branches-found it difficult to manage on the rations allocated to them. Barnardo’s still relied upon voluntary gifts for the continuance of their work as the largest single agency for child care in England. Canterbury Sailing Association’s Officers. — The following officers were elected for the year at a recent meeting of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association:—president, Mr E. E. Coombes; vice-presidents, Messrs T. H. Langford. W. S. MacGibbon, W. R. Carey. W. T. Lester. W. L. King, H. A. Rhind. L. Vangioni. G. Anderson, and the commodores of all affiliated clubs; secretary-treasurer, Mr J. R. H. Archer; auditor, Mr R. B. Neale; solicitor, Mr R. A. Young; measurer, Mr N. Stringer.
