DOWDY ?
Sir,—Mr Peter Mclntyre’s criticism of New Zealand women as “dowdy” is ungentlemartly, with a touch of vulgarity. What New Zealand women need, for appearance’s sake, in my opinion, is to cut out artificiality such as lipstick, painted nails, silly ..hats, any silly fashion. Personality is what is needed, not fashipn slavery. It gave me real pleasure, lately, when I called on a certain errand at a house in Christchurch, to have the knock answered by a young, pretty woman whose lips were the real, natural colour, God’s gift, not human artificiality. Why are so many women fashion slaves, willing to wear any foolish thing, apparently because- it is “fashionable”? I would like to see a battle royal against artificiality.— Yours, etc., GILLY FLOWER.
