COWLISHAW CUP The annual competition for the Cowlishaw Cup was played at the Shirley course yesterday, and was won by a team from the Ashburton Ladies’ Golf Club. The competition was inaugurated in 1927 when Miss I. Cowlishaw. one of the oldest members of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club and a former club champion, gave a cup for competition among teams from women’s golf clubs in and near Christchurch, with the exception of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club. Each team comprises four players, the match is played on handicap, and the team with the lowest net score wins the cup, which it holds for one year. Members of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club act as scorers for the visitors and entertain them at lunch and tea in the clubhouse.

Yesterday 20 teams took part in the competition, which was field in perfect W’eather with the course in first-class order. The scores showed a great improvement on those of last year, the winners' score being 308, as agaipst 342 last year, when the cup was won by the Hagley Club, with teams from Hanmer Swings and Russley second equal with scores of 345. Yesterday the Amuri team, former winners of the cup on more than one occasion, was second, and Avondale and Waitikiri third equal. The Manupiri Cup for the member of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club with the lowest score, was won by Miss Lilias Harcourt, whose score was 92, 23—69, and the Pumphrey Cup for the visitor with the lowest score was won by Mrs G.
