WORK GOES ON FOR CENTENNIAL BATHS.—The work of excavating the Christchurch centennial swimming pool site in progress yesterday. Since the first sod was turned on September 2, dewatering of the ground has been carried out, and now a dragline is digging deeply into the deep-end of the projected baths. The centennial baths scheme was devised before the war and the City Council acquired a freehold property in Oxford terrace for the purpose. An unconditional permit for the construction of the baths, even if the 1950 Empire Games are not held in Christchurch, is being sought by the City Council.
