SOCIAL SERVICES RECIPROCITY

ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN N.Z. AND AUSTRALIA (P.A.; AUCKLAND, August 23. The extension of reciprocal arrangements for pensions and other benefits will be discussed in New Zealand by the Director-General of Social Services for Australia (Mr F. H. Rowe) who arrived in the liner Aorangi today. .He said Australia had reciprocity with New Zealand in invalidity and age benefits. Arrangements were now being made to include widows’ pensions, child endowment, unemployment. and sickness benefits. Mr Rowe said negotiations were begun about two years ago and they were given some impulse by a conference in London last year when representatives of the British Commonwealth discussed the reciprocity of social services throughout the Empire. Arrangements between Australia and New Zealand were almost complete, and he had come to New Zealand to settle final details. Another object of his visit, ne said, was to examine certain aspects of the country’s rehabilitation measures and medical service scheme and to study closely what was being done in the way of dental services.
