ROLLING STOCK SHORTAGE

Sir,—G. E. Wright, in his attack on Mr Gerard, seems to be very concerned about our coal supply from the West Coast, and says: “Are the townspeople to wait for their household coal till his wheat is shifted?” I wonder whether G. E. Wright shows any concern for the townspeople up Huntly way, where about 12,000 tons of coal have been lost to the householders, railways and industry during the three weeks because a Labour Government has again fallen down on its job. If G. E. Wright would be good enough to visit Huntly and throw his political weight about in an effort to induce the labour bosses and their fellow-travellers to solve the problem of the desperate coal shortage 4n that part of the Dominion, I feel sure Mr Gerard would be one of the first to thank him; and what a thrill his successful efforts in this direction would give the housewives.—Yours, etc., WORKER. August 23, 1948.
