SCHOOLBOYS’ EVENTS The Canterbury schoolboy amateur wrestling championships were held at the Crichton Cobbers’ Club rooms last week. More than 50 boys from 14 primary and secondary schools in and near Christchurch competed in the various classes. Competition was keen and there were some excellent performances. A uniformly high standard of wrestling was seen. The championships were held under the supervision of the Canterbury Wrestling Association, and bouts were held in six classes under Olympic rules. The A. P. Craig Shield, presented by the president of the association for inter-school competition, was won by Chrstchurch West High School. Last year this shield Was won by Christchurch Technical College. Awards of the R. E. Booker Cup and R E. Hall Cup, which were also contested, are still to be made. The referees were Messrs J. A. McInnes, L. J. and J. F. Genet. Messrs J. Howard and J. T. Pocock were judges, and Messrs T. Fahey and E. E. Balloch seconds. Results were:— sst Class.—Winner, T. Donovan (Wharenui School); runner-up, A. Timmings (Shirley Intermediate). 6st Class.—Winner. I. B. Roberts (Christchurch East); runner-up, M. Howie (Christchurch West High). 7st Class.—Winner, B. Mitchell (Christchurch West High); runner-up, M. Northcot t (New Brighton). Bst Class.—Winner. L. J. Keats (Christchurch Technical College); runner-up. R. Russell (Aranui); 9st Class.—Winner, D.
