AIR SERVICE TO N.Z.
STATEMENT BY CANADIAN MINISTER (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) OTTAWA, July 21. The Canadian Minister of Transport (Mr Lionel Chevrier) announced today that the Canadian Government had approved the operation of an air service to Australia and New Zealand by the privately-owned Canadian Pacific Airlines. He said that the service would be operated without Government financial assistance.
Canadian Pacific Airlines is a private company in which has been consolidated a majority of the earlier independent airway companies. It flies between 5,000,000 and 6,000,000 miles and carries upwards of 125,000 passengers a year. It has associations with important transport interests, rail and sea, both inside and outside Canada. The Minister in charge of tKe New Zealand Air Department (Mr F. Jones) said in Wellington yesterday that he had had no advice on the subject.
