NAVAL PRIZE MONEY

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DISTRIBUTION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 22. The following recommendations to the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) on the distribution of prize money were drawn up at the New Zealand conference of the Ex-Royal Naval Men’s Association: All who served in the Royal New Zealand Navy during the Second World War should receive a share of naval prize money on a flat rate graded only by length of service; there should be no differentiation between ranks and Wrens should be included; any men invalided out of the service through war injuries should receive the same share as if they had continued to serve for the duration of the war. The secretary (Mr G. Tuck) said that according to his latest letter the Minister did not know how much prize money would be available for New Zealand. The Minister asked for the association’s suggestions as to how it should be paid out. “It is a pretty small sum to be divided among all the men of the Royal Navy and the navies of the Empire,” said a delegate. “We shall be lucky if we get £2 each.”
