MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) STOWAWAYS REMANDED William James Sandison, an assistant cook, aged 20, and James -Timothy Sines, a second cook, agea 18, pleaded guilty to a charge that, on July 9 at Sydney, they stowed away on the Fort Michipicoten. Detective-Sergeant A. A. Herron said that the two accused were on the ship when it arrived at Lyttelton on July 20. They had surrendered themselves to the captain 36 hours after the ship left Australia. Both were British seamen arid apparently had left a British ship at an Australian port. He asked that they be •emanded so that further inquiries could je made. The accused were remanded until uly 28. WOMAN FINED Ethel Zylpha McEntee pleaded guilty to i charge, brought by the Medical Officer of Health, that she had failed to submit herself to medical treatment as directed. She was fine'd £2. FOUND DRUNK Robert McCartney, a pensioner, aged 70, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in a public place, Cathedral square. He was fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. DUCKS SHOT AT NIGHT Edward Robert Streeter, a labourer, was fined £3 on a charge of shooting grey •ducks at Halswell after 6 p.m. Mr T. A. Gresson appeared for the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. SUSPENDED SENTENCE A young man. whose name was ordered not x to be published, pleaded guilty to a charge of wilful and obscene exposure. He was ordered to come up for sentence within 18 months if called upon. PRICE CONTROL CASES Patrick C. Kane, a grocer, 919 Colombo street, J. J. Turner, a grocer, 14 Opawa road, and F. H. Taylor, grocer, Opawa road, were each fined £5 on a charge of exposing for sale packages of sugar which were not labelled showing the weight. Lloyd Arthur Wigzell. fruiterer, Riccarton road, was fined 30s on a charge of failing to put a price ticket on apples. Spa Milk Bars, Ltd. (Mr W. F. Tracy), 698 Colombo street, was fined 10s on a charge of selling chocolates at a price not in conformity with a price order. The defendant company was also convicted and ordered to pay costs on a charge of failing to display a price order for chocolates. Eric Francis Mercer, confectioner. Cathedral square, who was represented by Mr W. F. Tracy, was fined 10s on a charge of selling chocolates at a price not in conformity with a price order.
