RUGBY FOOTBALL

REINSTATEMENT FROM LEAGUE CODE APPLICATION AGAIN CONSIDERED A further application for the reinstatement of S. R. Burns, made on this occasion by the Canterbury Rugby SubUnions, was considered by the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening, and it was eventually decided to forward the application and correspondence to the New Zealand Rugby Union, without comment. In the letter the sub-unions reiterated that what had previously been stated by the Malvern Sub-Union, was correct. Bums was acting as secretary of the Darfield Club and his father was club president. Burns had suffered injuries and would not play again. Failure to reinstate Burns would possibly have an adverse effect on the game in the district. After Mr R. R. Masters had moved that the matter be forwarded without comment the chairman (Mr V. L. Jensen) said he saw no reason why he should change his attitude of the previous week, when he said that the applicant had been chopping and changing his code. Once a man had been reinstated and had 1 later played in the League code he was not entitled to further consideration. The Technical Old Boys Club advised that its junior players had complained of difficulties at the lighted training ground while the representative team was practising. It was a danger to younger players to be practising on the same'ground as grown men. Mr Jensen said he. would pay a visit to the ground on the next practice night. An application made by Mr A. T. B. Stokes, on behalf of the Referees' Association, for seating accommodation in the players’ stand while representative games were being played, was declined. Mr C. H. Blazey said reserved accommodation was taxed to the utmost, and it was impossible to provide further privileges for anybody. After Mr Blazey moved that the request be declined, Mr L. B. Newton moved an amendment that one row of seats in the players’ stand be reserved for referees. During further discussion it was suggested that some seats "to the enclosure be reserved, but the matter was not pressed after the amendment had been defeated.

The permit committee reported that the Merivale Club had alleged that the Technical Old Boys’ Club had played a man in a third grade A match who was a registered junior player. It was stated that the player had played sufficient games to place him in the junior grade automatically and make an application for regrading necessary before he could again play third grade. It was decided to investigate. The Training. College. Club was granted the use of Rugby Park for the annual match against Auckland Training College on August 18. Permission was granted St. Bede’s College to meet St. Kevin’s College (Oamaru) at St. Bede’s on July 29 DRAW FOR SATURDAY (Unless otherwise stated, all games commence at 2.45 p.m.) Senior.—Sunny v.
