TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON

GOOD MILE BY GENERAL ARGOSY General Argosy worked particularly well over a mile at Riccarton yesterday morning, and promises to be a very fit candidate for his engagement at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting on Juiy 31. The best short sprint of the morning was to the credit of Deep Harmony and Golden Aii. Others to return good time were Silver Chase and Loch Lennox. The No.>4 grass was in use and provided good going. Disturbance was always going well within herself when completing four furlongs in 52 3-ssec. Resolute was well held throughout in a similar task in 55 2-ssec. Love Letter worked over six furlongs in good style to return Imin 17 2-ssec, the last four in 51 3-ssec. Irish Pearl started off with her, but stopped approaching the three furlongs. Conclusion (Finis —Good Passage colt) beat Terminate (Finis —Wild Fox colt), which had the worst of the weights, by three-quarters of a length at the end of four furlongs in 50sec. Auchenlee went over the same ground in 51 2-ssec. Marut (Airway—Sly Puss colt), with a big pull in the weights, just shaded Screw Picket (Spiral—Curtain gelding) at the end of five furlongs in Imin 6 l-ssec, the last four in 52 3-ssec. Both worked nicely. Starry (Nightly—Vivid gelding) and Radar, the first-named’s half-brother by Airway, sprinted four furlongs in 52sec. Radar is a solidly-made two-year-old and shows promise in the little galloping he has done. Diameter was restricted to six furlongs in Imin 20 2-ssec, the last four in 54sec. Lorna Leigh went over the same ground in Imin 21sec, the last four in 53sec. She has freshened up nicely since she last raced. Flying Orders sprinted four furlongs in 51sec. Golden Amber was under a good hold when Completing a similar task in 53 2-ssec. Courier returned similar time. General Argosy came home solidly to complete a mile in Imin 45 4-ssec, the last half in 51sec; He looks well and has developed into a solidly-made colt. Prefect and Royal Saleve kept together throughout four furlongs in 51sec. Graeme and Glen Cona took 53sec for a similar task. ' Revolte and Post Graduate were well clear of Master Mishna at the end of six furlongs in Imin 17 3-ssec, the last half in 52sec. Revolte is coming on nicely in his preparation. Big Top shaded Pageantry over five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the last four in 52 4-ssec. Lord Elgin, with much the worst of the weights, beat Robingay by a neck over six furlongs in Imin 17 l-ssec, the last four in 52sec. In a similar task, Detract was restricted to Imin 21 2-ssec, the last four in 54 3-ssec.

Deep Harmony and Golden Air sprinted four furlongs in 48 2-ssec, the best of the morning for the distance. Over the same ground, Ballochbuie and Minion went easily to return 53 l-ssec. Celtic Chief and Evening Star were on terms at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 3-ssec, the last four in 51 4-ssec. Silver Chase worked, clear of Lilli Marlene at the end of a furlong, and was still three lengths clear at the end of four furlongs, which took 49 3-ssec. Prince Cavalier gave a sound display in a school over five steeplechase fences. John o’ London and Home Again went over five hurdles at a solid pace and made no serious mistakes. Mercurius went with them over four, but they were soon well clear of him. Corrected Weights Revolte’s correct weight in the Winter Cup is 8-6, not 8-5, and Master Meruit has 10-2 in the Grand National Hurdles, not 10-3. N. B. Holland Injured The leading horseman, N. B. Holland, broke a leg when Black Ace, which he was riding in work at Te Rapa yesterday morning, crashed into a post alongside the track. The horse broke its foreleg and was destroyed.—(P.A.)
