MELBOURNE CUP WEIGHTS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. July 19. Columnist has been given top weight of 9-10 for the Caulfield Cup and second top weight also with 9-10 for the Melbourne Cup. The English horse Ford Transport, which finished second in the 1946 Cesarewitch in England, has been given top weight of 9-11 for the Melbourne Cup. The crack New Zealand stayer Signal Officer, has been given 9-7 in the Melbourne Cup and 9-8 in the Caulfield Cup. Thimble is considered badly handicapped, as his form in Sydney has been poor. He h-as 8-0 in the Caulfield Cup and 8-2 in the Melbourne Cup.
