UNIFORMS FOR FORCES

ORDERS FOR CLOTH PLACED

DELIVERY SPREAD OVER YEAR

(P.A.) DUNEDIN. July 19 New Zealand woollen mills have accepted orders to supply khaki and Ait Force blue cloth to the armed forces, delivery to be made between next month and August, 1949. The orders were accepted on a voluntary basis at a conference in Wellington last week of representatives of the mills and the Government.

The manufacture of cloth for civilian use will not be greatly affected by the orders for the arm’ed forces, which will amount to about 5 per cent, of the output of the mills. The cloth will be required for the territorial force to be established in the Dominion, and extra men entering the Air Force. During the war orders were accepted by the mills on a voluntary basis, and this method is now being employed again, each mill accepting what is considered to be its fair share in accordance with its capacity. Orders for making up uniforms from this cloth, it is understood, will be allocated to the larger clothing factories.
