FRAUD ATTEMPTED AT TRENTHAM
SPURIOUS TOTALISATOR TICKETS PRESENTED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 18. An unsuccessful attempt was made to cash spurious totalisator tickets at the races at Trentham on Saturday. A middle-aged woman presented tickets purporting to be on the winner of one of the earlier races. .A pay-out clerk suspected the tickets were not genuine, and on the pretence that he was going to collect more money, handed them to the totalisator supervisor. When this official returned quickly to the window where the tickets had been presented, the person who had attempted to cash them had departed. The method used was a clumsy one, and was not likely to have escaped detection by an* experienced pay-out clerk. The tickets on the race, bearing the correct date, code and other symbols, were purchased and were overlaid with a winning horse number removed from an other ticket.
