WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Papanui - Waimairi. The monthly meeting of the Papanui-Wai-mairi branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held recently, with Mrs S. F. Marshall presiding. Gifts for the branch’s stall at the Industries Fair were handed in. and a collection was made for the overseas parcel. Mrs Angus gave an interesting demonstration on the making of hats from cellophane. The monthly competition winners were Mesdames Grieg, O’Rourke, Nicholls, Rogers, Rowe, Cresswell, Gagliardi, and Miss Comer. Mesdames Bunt and Candy were hostesses at a recent meeting of the garden circle of the Home Economics Association, and Mrs G. J. H. Garton (convener) presided. An informative talk on flower ponds and aquariums was given by Mrs J. R. Richards, who gave valuable hints on succcessful methods of cultivating water-lilies. The prize winners were Mrs Bunt 1 and Mrs McKenzie 2. Four years ago Miss R. Wilkie (principal of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association) introduced playreading and drama among the staff of i the many kindergartens in and round Christchurch. Each year three or ■ more plays have been staged. This: year it was decided that the Drama Club will be known as “the Sunbeam Players,” commemorating the name of the first kindergarten of the association to be established in Christchurch 27 years ago. It was also decided to enter a play in the British Drama League festival which is being held in the Radiant Theatre at the end of this month.
