CONFIRMATION OF 400 PERSONS
SERVICES IN CHRISTCHURCH DIOCESE Acting under commission from the Bishop of Christchurch (Archbishop West-Watson), the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt. Rev. R. H. Owen) yesterday confirmed 400 persons in the Diocese of Christchurch. In the morning Bishop Owen confirmed in St. Stephen’s Church, Ashburton. In the afternoon the Christchurch Cathedral was packed to overflowing. with people standing in the porches and aisles. Because the Cathedral was not large enough to accommodate th 2 parents and godparents of th.? candidates a third Confirmation was
arranged for the evening in St. Saviour’s Church. Sydenham, which was also filled to overflowing. The majority of those confirmed .were young people, but among them were some husbands and wives, fathers and sons, and mothers and daughters. Twenty of the diocesan clergy were present at the Cathedral service. The Eishop of Wellington will rei turn north by air this morning.
