CHRISTCHURCH CLUB A 25-mile road race was held at New Brighton on Saturday by the Christchurch Cycling Club. With two laps to go (seven miles), the field had divided into two bunches. In a thrilling finish, R. Taylor (4min) won by a wheel from D. Denovai. (4min), with I. Sutherland (4mln) third. N. Mills, the former amateur champion, beat a bunch of 15 riders, gaining time honours from K. Johnson (scr) and M. Drake (scr). The placings were as follows:—R. Taylor (4min) 1, D. Denovan (4min) 2, I. Sutherland (4min) 3, L. Ball (6min) 4, J. Pearce (6min) 5, E. Shaw (7min) 6. Fastest time: N. Mills (scr), 57min Msec, 1; K. Johnson (scr), 57min 14 l-ssec, 2; M. G. Drake (scr), 57mln 14 3-ssec, 3. CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR CLUB The Christchurch Amateur Club held a 36-mile block race at Mairehau on Saturday. The field was smaller than usual, because of the absence of a team of riders which left for Dunedin to ride in the Otago 25 miles championships. Results were:—P. Watts (15|min), Ihr 50min, 7 1- 1; M. Wylie (13min), lhr 47min 37 22; H. Homes (15Jmin), lhr 50min 7 3-ssec, 3; T. Cameron (lOmin), lhr 47 min 47sec, 4. Fastest times: L. Frandsen (3min), lhr 42min 52sec, 1; L. Johnson (3min), lhr 42 min 53sec, 2. AVON AMATEUR CLUB The Avon Amateur Cycling Club held a 35 miles road race, which resulted as follows R. Quartley (12min) 1, R. Griffiths (6 min) 2, F. Stoddart (smin) 3, C. Percasky (6mm) 4. Fastest time: J. V. Martin (scr), lhr 31min 34sec. Second fastest time: L. J. Percasky (scr), lhr 31min 34 l-ssec.
