GUN DOG TRIALS
RETRIEVER CHAMPIONSHIPS The Canterbury Gun Dog Club held the Club Retriever Breed Championship on the Waimakariri river-bed near the North Road traffic bridge. Good trophies and the fine weather helped to attract a big crowd of spectators and competitors. Judges for the day were Messrs C. J. Sowden and A. E. Seeker. Placings were as follows: Club Retriever Breed Championship.— L. Gates's Yellow Labrador Cashmere Roy, (161 points) 1. W. E. Robbie’s Labrador champion Durley Beechtwig (imp.) (156) 2, R. Vance’s Yellow Labrador Cashmere Jiilana (151) 3. Open Class. —L. Gates's Yellow Labrador Cashmere Roy (178 points) 1, P. Stantoh's English Springer Spaniel Piccadilly Defiance (170) and M. P. Leathern’s English Springer Spaniel Freckles of Pridevilla (170) equal, 2. Limit Class (Land). —D. McAlpine’s Labrador Highland Laddie (77 points) 1. R. Day’s English Springer Spaniel Selina of Stainforth (69) 2, P. Poulton’s English Springer Spaniel Bruce of Halswell (65) 3. Novice Class.—R.
