“BLUE BABY” PATIENTS
EXAMINATION AT AUCKLAND OPERATIONS TO BEGIN LATER (PA.) WELLINGTON, July 18. “Blue baby” and othe/ prospective cardio-surgyal patients will be accepted for examination at Green Lane Hospital, Auckland, next week. Actual operations will not begin for some time, and the work, which will start on Tuesday, will comprise clinical examinations. X-ray screenings, and the analysis of blood. Mr Douglas Robb, who recently returned from a trip overseas, where he studied operative and clinical methods of dealing with the disease in the United States. Canada, and the United Kingdom, will be in charge of the work. Making this announcement yesterday, the Minister of Health (Miss M. B. Howard) said it was recommended in those cases where persons had children or other members of their families who were suffering from this affliction that, first, they should contact the superintendent of their local hospital, who would make subsequent arrangements.
Mr Robb has presented a report to the Minister of Health, in which he advocates that work on “blue babies’* should and must be undertaken in New Zealand.
