Easing in Labour Shortage There is a general easing in the shortage of labour throughout New Zealand, according to the Director of the Labour and Employment Department (Mr H. L. Bockettu “I would not suggest that there is any sign of unemployment, however,” he said. “Our registration of vacancies still remains about 24,000. and it has been between 23.000 and 26,000 for the last 12 or 18 months.” Mr Bockett added that the change over from seasonal work would account for the extra supply of male labour for certain types of employment.—(P.A.)
