ANGLICAN CHURCH SCHOOLS
COMMISSION SET UP A commission on\ the Anglican Church Schools of the Christchurch Diocese has been appointed by the Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson). The recommendation of the Synod on this matter was first made in 1943. The commission will examine and report, with recommendations, on such matters as the constitution, managejnent. assets, liabilities and finance of the Anglican Schools of the Diocese. This is intended merely to be a “stocktaking” of the schools and no major alterations are contemplated. The schools concerned are St. Margaret’s College, Craighead Diocesan School, Victory Memorial School, St. Michael’s School. St. Mark’s School, Cathedral Grammar School, and Te Wai Pounamu College. The commission will also report on the value of the schools to the diocese spiritually, financially, or otherwise.
The three members appointed by the Archbishop are Dr. D. E. Hansen (principal of the Christchurch Technical College), Mr A. E. Lawrence (Canterbury Education Board, and Synod representative on the Board of Governors of Craighead Diocesan School, limaru), and Mr L. W. Broadhead (church steward and diocesan treasurer). Members appointed by the controlling boards are: the Rev. C. L. Dobbs (Victory Memorial School), Messrs S. G. Lamport (St. Michael’s Schodl), A. E. D. Ludecke (St. Mark’s School), John Stewart (Te Wai Pounamu Maori Girls’ College), E. P (S £- Margaret’s College), H. S. Hobbs (Cathedral Grammar), and A. E. Lawrence (Craighead Diocesan School).
