WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Tai Tapu.—Letters from the Greek boy, now in hospital, who has been "adopted” by the branch, and from his mother and uncle expressing gratitude for the help given by members, were read at the July meeting of the Tai Tapu branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It was decided to send more parcels and letters. It was reported that the usual monthly food parcel had been sent. Four new members were welcomed by Mrs Dulieu, who presided. Mr Armstrong (Christchurch) spoke of the object of the forthcoming combined orphanages’ appeal in Christchurch and asked for assistance in stocking a stall. He asked that representatives from the branch be elected to a central committee to assist the work Mrs Sparrow (Anglican Church), Mrs Williamson (Presbyterian), and Mrs Tobeck (Methodist) were elected. Delegates to the North Canterbury executive gave a report of a recent meeting. The "rose group” was in charge of the social programme, which included items by Mrs D. Hamilton, sen., a Highland fling by Miss Adrienne Sparks, and a Dutch dance bv Miss Patricia Jenkins. The pianist was Mrs Sparks. Mesdames Jenkins and W McLachlan won a competition. Mesdames Hamilton, A. Payne, and H. Williamson and Miss K. Mangels were hostesses. Belfast.—Mrs Forrest presided over a good attendance of members at a meeting of the Belfast branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The roll call was "The most interesting place I have visited.” Hostesses were Mesdames Clark, Cox, J. Crawford. Competitions resulted as follows:—small bloom: Mrs Murfitt 1, Mrs Smith-2. Large bloom: Mrs Forrest and Miss Crawford (equal) 1, Mesdames Murfitt and A. Crawford (equal) 3. Posy of polyanthus: Mrs Farquhar 1, Miss Crawford 2. Pikelets: Mrs McCormick 1, Mrs Freeman 2.
