FINAL TRIAL

GOOD SPRINT BY CITATION “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 15. An outstanding gallop over five furlongs by Citation wag the highlight of the trials at Trentham this morning for the final day of the -Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting on Saturday, Others who worked pleasingly included Langspiel, Corineus, Lovemorn, Lyn Vaals, and Earldale. Galloping took place on the two-year-old track, and the outside of the course proper from the mile to the three furlongs. Light rain fell throughout the morning, and the going was soft and cutting out. On the course proper, Hormuz ran an easy five furlongs in Imin 12sec. He was accompanied over the first three by Oban in 43sec. Hormuz has made a good recovery from the injuries he suffered last Saturday. The Rip did well to keep with Master Baron, a good track galloper, throughout five furlongs in Imin 7 2*-ssec, the first half-mile in 52sec.

Travelling comfortably, Mercian Lad shaded Mine Host at the conclusion of five furlongs in Imin 8 2-ssec, the first half-mile taking 53sec. Mercian Lad is in good order.

Howe moved freely over half a mile in 52 2-ssec. He is in solid condition. Howe’s programme will depend on the state of the going. Persian Poem and Galway Bay were together throughout half a mile in 52sec. Persian Poem has done well since she raced on the second day and will be well fancied in the NoVice Handicap. Special Flight and Triumphal were associated over five furlongs in Imin 7 4-ssec. Special Flight was doing the better at the end of the trial, but she has lightened up since being at Trentham.

Lovemorn Works Well Lovemorn finished three lengths ahead of Grand Play at the end of five furlongs in Imin 7 l-sgec, the first half-mile taking 52 3-ssec. Lovemorn impressed by the easy manner in which she did her work. It is thought likely that she will contest the Onslow Handicap in preference to the Winter Oats.

Boolamskee and Foxchase were doing better than Kelmont throughout five furlongs in Imin 11 l-ssec, the first half-mile in 56 l-ssec. Boolamskee and Foxchase are in solid condition to contest the Winter Hurdles. In a similar trial, Tring and Desert Trek recorded Imin 12sec, the first half-mile in 55 4-ssec. Elofa and Matapan completed five furlongs in Imin 7 4-ssec, the first half-mile requiring 53sec. They did not appear to have much in reserve at the finish. Coral Arc completed, half a mile in 56 2-ssee. He looks improved with his outings on the first two days. Easily the best five furlongs was recorded by Citation, when she finished two lengths in front of Batley, after running the distance in Imin 5 3-ssec, the first half-mile in 51sec. She worked badly on Tuesday, but has re-entered Winter Oats discussions by her splendid trial this morning. .. . Lyn Vaals was travelling easily alongside Full of Fun at the conclusion of five furlongs in Imin 6 4-ssec, the first halfmile taking 53 l-ssec. It has not yet been announced whether Lyn Vaals will contest the Winter Oats or the Onslow Handicap. Second Seal was kept up to his work to run five furlongs in Imm llsec, the fiist half-mile in 57sec. Earldale Pleases The Winter Oats candidate, Earldale, Dieased when he accounted for Ruling Master over five furlongs in Imin 6 2-5 sec, the first half-mile requiring 52 l-ssec. Earldale shows no ill effects from his fall in the Parliamentary Handicap, and should be a light-weight prospect on Saturday. Quartz was too good for Memento over half a mile in 57 2-ssec, the first three furlongs taking 41 2-ssec. Quartz could have done better. Under a good hold, Theocritus completed half a mile in 57 2-ssec, the first three furlongs in 42sec. Colorado Maid and Distinction were on terms at the end of five furlongs in Imin 11 3-ssec, the fifSt half-mile in 57 3-ssec. Bonnie Fair and Sir Royal handled the conditions well while leaving half a mile behind in 53sec, In a similar effort, Lord Theio required 55sec, the first three furlongs taking -40 sec. On the two-year-old track, Palissy finished a length in front oY Reveller, at the conclusion of six furlongs in Imin 24 sec, the last four in 54 l-ssec, and the final three in 41 l-ssec. The two-year-olds. Sequoia and Brixton were together throughout half a mile in 52 4-ssec. Langspiel was doing better than Julius Caesar at the cdncluslon of fiVe furlongs in Imin 6sec. Cooraclare sprinted home from the halfmile in 54 3-ssec, the last three furlongs taking 41 3-ssec. Corineus, which picked up Town Echo at the half-mile, finished well clear of Town Survey, after running seven furlongs in Imin 36 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 54sec, arid the final three furlongs in 41sec. It was an impressive effort. White Cliffs completed half a mile in 54sec, the Huai three furlongs in 41sec. Find Out drew attention to his prospects in the Matai Steeplechase by outjumping Batal over six fences. Find Out had plenty of pace on ahd gave a dashing display. Brookby Song gave a good exhibition over two schooling hurdles in the centre of the course. He later completed two rounds of solid pace work. Town Survey and Corineus were associated over two hurdles. Foxchase jumped the same obstacles, but hit the second, and almost unseated his rider.

WAIMATE HUNT CLUB’S MEETING

FIRST OUT FAVOURED IN STEEPLES

The Waimate Hunt Club has received strong support for its annual meeting to be held at Waimate to-morrow, and good fields are engaged in all events. It is probable that the Novice Stakes, Redcliff Hack Handicap, and the Winter Trot Handicap will be run in divisions.

The principal attraction of the day will be the Waimate Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase, in which First Out and Forage may dispute the favouritism. First Out won the Tahuna Hack Steeplechase at the Dunedin winter meeting last month, and was going well when he was crowded on landing and fell at the second of the stand double in the Roslyn Hack Steeplechase on the second day. He has not raced since. Forage won the Hick and Hunters’ Steeplechase at Oamaru last month in good style. The fences were only brush hurdles, but the race was a useful preliminary for an attempt over a more varied course. The veteran, Ballyaggan, is the only other runner that may offer serious opposition. He is a sound jumper but lacks pace. The remainder are doubtful quantities. In the Morven Handicap, the principal flat race of the day. Winning Cheer’s recent form entitles him to favouritism. Earlier in the season he won over a mile and a quarter, and at Wingatui last month he was twice second over seven furlongs and finished strongly on each occasion. Alamode is likely to be improved by his racing last month. If he were anywhere near his best it would be a one horse” race, as he was a class above this field. Siegtone, Bonny Royal, and Bright News are recent graduates from hack company capable of a good showing, and the hurdler, Pedantic, is not without prospects.
