SKATING SEASON OPENED
Prizes won by Christchurch contestants at the world’s skating championships in 1946 were presented by the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) when he opened the roller-skating season at the De Luxe skating rink on Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs H. A. Allchurch, who were third in the pairs’ championship, and Miss V. Burgess, who was third in the quarter and half-mile championships, were presented with trophies. Mr Allchurch and Miss Burgess also received bronze speed medallions. An exhibition of dance skating was given by Mr and Mrs Allchurch.
