MR A. S. MITCHELL IN AUCKLAND

NOMINATED AS WORLD PRESIDENT

(RA.) AUCKLAND, March 21. The official nominee of the nominating committee for the position of president of Rotary International for 1848-49, Mr Angus S. Mitchell, of Melbourne. arrived at Auckland by a Trans-Australian Airlines Skymaster from Sydney. He is on his way to the the United States to attend the Inter-, national Rotary Convention which will be held at Rio de Janeiro from May 16 to May 20. Mr Mitchell is the first Australian to be nominated for a world rotary post Interviewed after his arrival, he expressed a strong belief in tne important influence of the movement in world affairs. He considered it would be one of the greatest instruments for obtaining international understanding in the future, and was destined to grow strongly. The ideals of Paul Harris, the founder of the movement, would eventually be the ideas of all thinking people. Mr Mitchell will attend a luncheon of the Auckland Rotary Club to-mor-row. On Wednesday he will travel to Christchurch by air and will return to Auckland in time to catch an aircraft to San Francisco on April 7. From San Francisco he will go to Rotary headquarters a't Chicago, and then to the International Assembly at Quebec. The assembly will precede the convention at Rio de Janeiro. Mr Mitchell expects to be away from Australia for about 15 months.
