DUTCH REPORTS
OF FIGHTING WEST JAVA DISTRICT TROOPS AND REPUBLICAN IRREGULARS (Rec. IB P.fo.) BATAVIA. March 16. Serious fighting is going on between Indonesian Republican irregular* and Dutch troops in the rugged Madjalengka district, 25 miles south of Cheribon, in West Java, according to reliable Dutch sources. It is stated that the Dutch Army is taking action to round up'the irregulars. who are believed to belong to a Moslem youth unit called “Hisbulla.” Madjalengka U well within Dutchoccupied. West Java, and la separated from the Republic by a demilitarised zone. According to the Dutch, the district ha* been a centre of Republican resistance ever since the Dutch “police action” ended on August 4, No official information has been given about the fighting by the Security Council Good Offices Committee. which, according to the agreement signed aboard the U.S.S. Renville, must obtain the concurrence of the disputing parties before issuing military information.
