OFFICIAL OPENING OF FACTORY
COUNTY CHAIRMAN NOT TO ATTEND
“I take exception to this—the factory is in our county and I think it is wrong for the Mayor of Christchurch to come in without asking my permission,” said the chairman (Mr W. W. Laing) to the Waimairi County Council last evening* when he reported that he had received an invitation to attend the official opening of a timber-treating factory next month at which the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) would preside. ‘‘l could not have the cheek to go into Christchurch to open anything without the Mayor’s permission, and I am instructing the county clerk to reply declining the invitation,” Mr Laing said. Cr. I. A. W. Chapman: I think you are running away a bit. There might have been some misunderstanding or delay, as once before in a similar tfase Mr Andrews had sought the chairman’s permission, said Cr. H. Kitson. ‘‘But I think the chairman’s attitude is right,” he added.
