FIRE PRECAUTIONS IN STATE BUILDINGS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 17. The Public Works Department is making a survey of fire hazards, escapes, and alarm equipment in Government buildings and the training of staff in the evacuation of buildings is to be placed in the hands of the Internal Affairs Department, except in small centres where the Public Service Commission’s representatives will take direct responsibility. A technical committee comprising manufacturers, underwriters, fire authorities, and Government departments is being set up to advise the Government on the standard to be adopted for existing thermostat alarms and for those installed in future.
