MR HOLLAND AND THE GOVERNMENT

, Sir,—G. E. Wright preconceives Mr Holland using special constables and batons in a firm stand against unlawful violation of labour laws and award rates of wages. I don’t think so. In 1913 New Zealand was more prosperous than to-day. Now everything is in a wanton state except beer and work. Money is plentiful: so is work. Old motor-cars sell at tremendous prices, and other goods also. Spoonfeeding and go-slow policies against Parliamentary ruling mean less than is necessary for us. Life should be real and earnest, bearing the burden of any fate with a heart to labour and wait the fruits thereof. Christianity is our bulwark of salvation; Communism is the Devil’s weapon as seen in the death chambers of Europe. Which do you choose to believe in? Dust you. are and to dust returneth, or dust you are was not spoken of your soul.—Yours, etc.. A . JOHN ODGERS. Annat, March 15. 1948.
