MR MORRISON WARNS SOCIALISTS
LESSON OF EVENTS IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, March 6. The Lord President of the Council (Mr Herbert Morrison), in a speech at Grimsby, warned “Socialist simpletons who urge co-operation with the Communists” that events in Czechoslovakia had proved that the Communists were enemies to Parliamentary or any kind of democracy, who would stoop to any depth of blackmail or violence in order to seize power. Events in Czechoslovakia had shown how trades unionism could be used against democratic aims, public interests, freedom and social progress.
“There is a minority in many countries—in some cases they constitute the Government of the country—of Communists following the Fascist technique, and seeking by minority conspiracies to capture power in the trade unions for subversive political ends,” Mr Morrison said. He urged all trade unionsists to attend union meetings to prevent the obstruction of their ness by those who sought to force through bad policies. He appealed to members to be live trade unionists, not mere cardboard members.
