CHILD DROWNED IN HOLE ON BEACH
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. March 7. An eight-year-old boy was drowned when he stepped into an under-water hole on the beach at Waikareao estuary, Tauranga. He was William Arthur Beaumont, a son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Beaumont, of Sulphur Point. The boy was paddling on the beach where his two uncles were swimming. He stepped into a sand hole which had been scooped in the beach, dragging Ray Beaumont, aged 17, down with him. Ray Beaumont broke free and then started to dive for the boy but his body was not recovered until an hour later.
