CEREBRAL PALSY SPECIALIST
DR. EARL CARLSON LEAVESFOR N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, March 5. Dr. Earl Carlson, who has been crippled from cerebral palsy since his birth, and is now one of the world’s acknowledged authorities on the malady, left San Francisco by a Pan American Airways’ aeroplane to-night for a tour of New Zealand and Australia, where he will give lectures and visit clinics. Dr. Carlson, interviewed before his departure, said: “Until I was 18, I could do nothing for myself and had to be washed, dressed, and fed. Then I decided this had to stop. I determined that I would learn all I could about this scourge of cerebral palpy, and dedicated my life to my fellow sufferers.
“One of the main things I want tn advocate on this, my first visit to New Zealand and Australia, is a State programme for research for the whole world. It is long overdue.”
Dr. Carlson is head of the Carlson School for Crippled Children in Florida. His New Zealand itinerary includes stops in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. He is accompanied by his wife, who is a qualified nurse.
