FOOD PARCELS FOR BRITAIN
ITEMS SUITABLE FOR INCLUSION
Items which are ideal for inclusion in gift parcels to be dispatched to the United Kingdom, and those which have second preference, and may be used to fill up any vacant space in parcels, are listed in a guide issued by the Aid For Britain Committee.
Items which have first preference are:—powdered milk (full cream), condensed milk (full cream, sweetened if possible), malted milk, lard or cleared dripping (in tins carefully sealed), suet (in tins), tinned meats, tinned bacon, canned- cheese, treacle and golden syrup (in tins carefully sealed, definitely not in cartons), honey and jam (in tins), fruit cakes (in tins), plum puddings (in tins), soap—washing soap or soap flakes (in tins or packed with tinned food only). Second preferences:—dried fruit, tinned fruits, tinned fruit juices, jelly crystals, block, plain wrapped chocolate, gelatine, glucose, sweets, pastry mix, cocoanut, peanut butter, custard powder. The guide states that the following items should definitely not be sent. — meat or fish paste, any tinned variety of fish, meat and vegetable extracts, soup cubes or tinned soup, cocoa and cocoa-malt tinned or compressed vegetables, coffee, junket tablets, flour puddings.
